Jays From Home

#30 – Jason Love, Author of Slices of Americana

Jason Love, Author of Slices of Americana

In this week's episode, Matt & Steve are joined by author Jason Love to talk about his book, Slices of Americana: A Road Trip Through American Baseball History. They also talk about the Blue Jays' latest home stand, which included Alek Manoah's dominant performance against the Rays as well as Marcus Semien's 40th home run of the season.

As an update to the Jays talk, Steve speculated giving Ryu some extra rest - it turns out that he was placed on the Injured List with Neck Tightness, so it looks like he will get that extra rest.

#29 – Not Live, but In-Person

Episode Notes

Matt and Steve record IN PERSON for the first time ever instead of over Skype. We watched the 22-7 win over Baltimore with Glen before recording, and talk about the Jays' playoff hunt, some surprising player performances, and speculate whether or not Gurriel Jr. should be named AL Player of the Week (two grand slams? We think so).

#28 – Stepping on the Gas Pedal

Episode Notes

This week, Matt & Steve talk how the Jays have found a second wind with a dominant week vs the O’s and A’s, a dominant month for Robbie Ray and Vladdy’s resurgence at the plate, plus a look at the ever changing playoff picture.

#27 – Jays Get a Goodwin vs Tigers

Episode Notes

Matt is back after a week off camping. Steve & Matt talk about the Jays' low-scoring games, the Jays' chances at making the playoffs, increased COVID protocols at the Rogers Centre, interesting player names on the Chicago White Sox, and they are thankful there is no apparent deal between the MLB and Bartsool Sports.

Plus some more movie and book talk, not all of it related to baseball.

#26 – Respect Your Opponents

Another episode with Glen

Matt is away camping, so Glen joins Steve for his 3rd time on the podcast. Glen & Steve talk about the YouTube game this week (12-6 loss to Washington), possible City Connect jersey ideas for the Blue Jays, and try to be optimistic about the rest of the Jays season.

#24 – Generation Jay

Episode Notes

In today’s episode, Steve is away so Matt welcomes his older brother Glen back to the co-host chair. They talk about the Jays playoff run, the Field of Dreams game, coming up with a nickname for the Jays offence and the COVID competitive disadvantage plus tiny eggshells and plain noodles.

#23 – The Return to Toronto

Episode Notes

Matt joins Steve from the train! From Toronto! Matt was able to catch the Saturday and Sunday Blue Jays games from Toronto and talks about his experience at the Rogers Centre. The Jays had a pretty good week, which finished off with a sweep of Kansas City. Also, a quick analysis of the Jays' trade deadline moves. Plus, the Brewers are adding more former Blue Jays players to the roster.

Our apologies for the audio quality - neither Matt or Steve were recording at home.

#22 – Optimized Lineup Equals More Runs

Episode Notes

Matt & Steve talk some more about the upcoming trade deadline, the Blue Jays' return to Toronto (both on July 30th!) - and Matt will be in Toronto for the Saturday and Sunday games vs. the Royals. They also discuss the optimized lineup, some good news about several Blue Jays prospects appearing on Keith Law's Top 50 Prospects list, and a little bit about the Cleveland Guardians. Plus bonus trivia!

#21 – Jays Going Home

The Jays officially announced their intention to return to Toronto July 30th

Episode Notes

Steve is back to co-host the episode just in time to discuss the Blue Jays' impending return to Toronto! It was announced by the Blue Jays that due to a Federal exemption to allow players across the border, they will play in Toronto as of July 30th for the first time since 2019.

Matt also shares his thoughts about the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game, and we do our regular Brewers check-in.
